Schedule: At our location on 9th Ave, we serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner Monday-Friday and serve lunch and dinner on Saturday. The breakfast shift is 8-10AM, lunch shift is 12-2PM, and dinner shift is 4-6PM. We are closed on Sunday. At our location on SE 165th, the shifts are 4PM-7PM Monday-Wednesday.
Qualifications: Dependability, basic cooking skills and comfort with an industrial kitchen environment, commitment to New Avenues for Youth’s mission, acceptance and sensitivity towards all youth, staff, and volunteers.
Age Requirement: Must be at least 21 years old.

TutoringTutoringTutors work with youth to improve their skills in math, reading, writing, history, and science to help prepare them to pass the GED test.

Qualifications: Experience working as a tutor or teacher is required. Strong math, history, science, and/or English skills needed as well as basic computer skills. Patience, dependability, awareness of appropriate boundaries necessary. Experience working with homeless, at-risk, and/or foster youth a strong plus.

Career Preparation & MentoringCareer Preparation & MentoringProfessional mentors volunteer with our Career Exploration and Development program and help young people with their resumes, cover letters, career exploration and guidance in specific industries.

Schedule: Tuesdays from 10AM-1PM and Thursdays from 2-5PM. Mentors do not volunteer every week, schedule is flexible (but always on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons).
Qualifications: Patience, dependability, basic computer skills, experience with interviewing and hiring, access to business connections and job leads in Portland, commitment to New Avenues for Youth’s mission, acceptance and sensitivity towards all youth, staff, and volunteers.
Age Requirement: Must be at least 25 years old.

Volunteer at EventsVolunteer at EventsSupport New Avenues by volunteering at one of our fundraising events throughout the year. The location varies depending on the event, as does the schedule and time commitment. Our events are typically in the evening or on a weekend.

Schedule: Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30-8PM. AMP volunteers are expected to volunteer a minimum of one shift per month.
Qualifications: Patience, dependability, basic skills in music or art, experience working with homeless, at-risk, and foster youth is a plus, ability to commit to a regular volunteer shift.

Support Youth in SMYRCSupport Youth in SMYRCVolunteer with New Avenues for Youth’s Sexual and Gender Minority Youth Resource Center to support program staff, cook meals, organize donations, and help with community engagement. Use program tools to provide a more equitable experience for LGBTQ youth and back up staff during community center hours. All SMYRC volunteers are trained in equity and advocacy and bring their own understanding and experience of issues that are affecting our LGBTQ youth.
Location: 1220 SW Columbia St., Portland, OR 97201 (SMYRC Downtown) and/or 16570 SE Oak, Portland, OR 97230 (SMYRC East)
Schedule: Monday and Friday 4-8PM, and Thursday 4-6PM, at SMYRC Downtown. Tuesday and Wednesday 3-7PM at SMYRC East.
Qualifications: Patience, dependability, minimum of 1 year prior engagement in other LGBTQ programs/services, ability to commit to two volunteer shifts per month, experience in intersectionality, oppression, and activism, knowledge of trauma informed care. SMYRC gives preference to volunteers who identify as queer.

Support Youth in East CountySupport Youth in East CountyCommunity Coordinator volunteers support youth in getting their basic needs met and help them feel connected to the Youth Opportunity Center and the staff who work there. Foster participation in skill building and community building activities, along with planned events where youth have the opportunity to give back to the community. Coordinators also play an important role in the development and coordination of daily Drop-in programming, along with direct support and supervision of youth in the space.
Location: Youth Opportunity Center, 470 SE 165th Avenues Portland, OR 97233
Schedule: 4PM-7PM Monday & Wednesday. Community Coordinators are expected to work a minimum of two shifts per month.
Qualifications: Dependability, strong customer service skills, commitment to New Avenues for Youth’s mission, acceptance and sensitivity towards all youth, staff, and volunteers.
Age Requirement: Must be at least 21 years old.

Schedule: 4PM-7PM Monday & Wednesday. Community Coordinators are expected to work a minimum of two shifts per month.

Support Our Parenting GroupSupport Our Parenting GroupParent Group Volunteers work alongside the parent support specialist staff by facilitating childcare for parents onsite. This position will work collaboratively with the parent support staff to encourage parent participation, and doing activities with the children.
Location: Transitional Housing, 1220 SW Columbia St., Portland, OR 97201
Schedule: 5:30PM-8PM on Wednesday evenings.
Qualifications:Patience, dependability, qualified childcare provider, flexible, works well with a team, commitment to New Avenues for Youth’s mission, acceptance and sensitivity towards all youth, staff, and volunteers.
Age Requirement: Must be at least 25 years old.
