Most New Avenues housing programs require participants to be screened into the Homeless Youth Continuum. For information about screening criteria, please contact the Access and Reception Center at 503.432.3986. E-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions.
New Avenues’ on-site housing is a 24-bed facility in downtown Portland in which residents (including some parents with young children) may live for up to two years while they work toward stability and independence. Each resident engages in 30 hours of productive time per week, including education, counseling, and job training. On average, 90% of residents exit the program to stable housing.
Our community-based housing program helps youth transition into their own apartment in the community, supporting rental-search efforts and subsidizing housing costs as they become more self-sufficient.
A collaboration between New Avenues, Commissioner Dan Saltzman’s office, Home Forward, REACH and Portland Community College, New Doors is a housing community for youth formerly in foster care based on the Oxford House model of self-governance. Each resident is either working or in school.
Oregon’s first-ever housing program specifically for LGBTQ youth experiencing homelessness, Unity House expands on the LGBTQ-specific services we offer through SMYRC (Sexual & Gender Minority Youth Resource Center).
